Newly incorporated in the UAE? ETaxFlow gets you compliant from the first invoice — VAT registration tracking, Corporate Tax assessment, WPS payroll setup, and FTA-format invoicing ready in under an hour.
From incorporation to your first annual return — whether you're mainland in Dubai or set up in an Abu Dhabi or Sharjah free zone, here is what every UAE startup needs to handle, and how ETaxFlow manages each step.
ETaxFlow comes pre-configured for UAE businesses — chart of accounts, VAT codes, and FTA-compliant invoice templates ready from day one. Issue your first tax invoice in minutes.
Every company incorporated in the UAE must register for Corporate Tax within 3 months of incorporation, even before it starts trading. Late registration costs AED 10,000. ETaxFlow's deadline checker works out your date.
UAE businesses must register for VAT once taxable supplies exceed AED 375,000 in any 12-month rolling period. ETaxFlow tracks your running total and alerts you when you're approaching the threshold — so you register on time and avoid penalties.
As soon as you hire your first employee, ETaxFlow sets up WPS payroll — collecting IBAN details, structuring the salary package, and generating the SIF file for your first salary transfer via WPS.
At the end of your first financial year, ETaxFlow computes your Corporate Tax position. If your revenue is AED 3 million or less in that period and every earlier one, and the period ends on or before 31 December 2026, it checks Small Business Relief and guides you through the election. Periods ending after that date are not covered by the relief as currently legislated, so most companies incorporated from 2026 onwards should plan for the standard rates: 0% on the first AED 375,000 of taxable income and 9% above it.
ETaxFlow tracks your CT return filing deadline (9 months after financial year end) and prepares the CT300 report from your accounting data — ready to submit through the FTA’s EmaraTax portal.
Under the UAE e-invoicing mandate, businesses with revenue under AED 50 million must issue B2B and B2G invoices as structured e-invoices through an Accredited Service Provider from 1 July 2027, with the provider appointed months earlier. Read the UAE e-invoicing guide for the timeline.
Everything a new UAE business needs to stay compliant — without needing a full-time accountant from day one.
Real-time monitoring of your 12-month rolling taxable supplies with alerts when you approach the AED 375,000 mandatory registration threshold.
Automatic check of Small Business Relief eligibility for each tax period that ends on or before 31 December 2026, plus a clear view of your 0%/9% Corporate Tax position after that.
Issue correct tax invoices from the first sale — with TRN field, VAT amount, sequential numbering, and all FTA mandatory fields pre-filled.
Set up payroll for your first hire in under 10 minutes and generate WPS SIF files from your first salary run onwards.
P&L, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow reports formatted for investor decks, bank financing applications, and board presentations — always current.
Invite your accountant or CFO as a user — they get read/write access to review, adjust, and sign off entries without a separate tool.
Early-stage UAE businesses typically focus on growth and delay compliance setup. The FTA and MOHRE have published penalty schedules that make this expensive. These are the first-offense penalties that apply to most startups — subsequent violations attract higher amounts.
| Compliance Obligation | First-Offense Penalty | Subsequent Penalty | Deadline |
|---|---|---|---|
| Corporate Tax registration | AED 10,000 | — (one-off) | Within 3 months of incorporation — check your date |
| VAT registration (once threshold met) | AED 10,000 | — (one-off) | Apply within 30 days of taxable supplies exceeding AED 375,000 |
| Late VAT return filing | AED 1,000 | AED 2,000 if repeated within 24 months | 28 days after the end of the tax period |
| Late VAT payment | 14% a year, charged monthly | Same rate until paid | Same deadline as the VAT return |
| Missing or non-compliant tax invoice | AED 5,000 per invoice | AED 5,000 per invoice | Assessed during an FTA audit |
| Late WPS salary payment | Visa / work-permit block | Labour ban, MOHRE action | Salaries count as late 15 days after the due date |
| Failure to keep accounting records | AED 10,000 | AED 20,000 if repeated within 24 months | Keep records 7 years (Corporate Tax), 5 years (VAT) |
| Late CT return | AED 500 per month (first 12 months) | AED 1,000 per month from month 13 | 9 months after financial year end |

Tax questions every UAE founder should know the answers to
Yes. A company incorporated in the UAE, including in a free zone, must register for Corporate Tax within 3 months of incorporation, whether or not it has started trading or has any revenue. Registering late carries a AED 10,000 penalty. Use the free CT registration deadline checker to find your date; ETaxFlow's onboarding checklist then walks you through registration on EmaraTax.
Small Business Relief lets a resident business elect to be treated as having no taxable income if its revenue is AED 3 million or less in the current tax period and every previous one. It only applies to tax periods ending on or before 31 December 2026, so a startup whose first financial year ends in 2027 cannot use it unless the rules are extended. In that case the standard rates apply: 0% on the first AED 375,000 of taxable income and 9% above. ETaxFlow tracks your revenue and flags whether the relief is available for each period.
You can register voluntarily once your taxable supplies or expenses exceed AED 187,500. It can make sense if your customers are VAT-registered businesses who can reclaim the VAT, and it lets you recover VAT on your own set-up costs. If your customers are mostly consumers, adding 5% to your prices may cost you sales. ETaxFlow shows your taxable supplies and expenses so you and your tax adviser can decide.
Private-sector employers registered with MOHRE must pay salaries through the Wage Protection System (WPS). Each pay run produces a Salary Information File (SIF) that you submit through your bank or exchange house, which reports the payment to MOHRE. Salaries count as late 15 days after the due date. ETaxFlow generates the SIF file automatically each pay run, with no manual formatting.
ETaxFlow maintains a complete audit trail: every transaction is time-stamped, linked to its source document, and traceable to the ledger entry. If the FTA selects your business for a VAT or CT audit, you can produce the full workings package — returns, supporting journals, and source invoices — in a single export.
Yes. ETaxFlow is UAE-licensed and sells across the GCC. When you select your country during setup, the software applies that country's VAT rules automatically — including Saudi Arabia's 15% VAT, Bahrain's 10% VAT and Oman's 5% VAT. Qatar and Kuwait do not currently levy VAT, so ETaxFlow handles bookkeeping and reporting there without a VAT module.
Everything a new UAE company needs to get right from day one.
Required for WPS payroll (IBAN for SIF files) and VAT payment to FTA. Most UAE banks take 4–8 weeks to open.
Register on EmaraTax within 3 months of incorporation to avoid the AED 10,000 late-registration penalty — even before you start trading.
UAE VAT registration is mandatory when taxable supplies exceed AED 375,000 in any 12-month period. ETaxFlow tracks this automatically.
All UAE employees must be paid through WPS-registered payroll. Late WPS payments can block visa renewals. ETaxFlow generates SIF files immediately after payroll approval.
Once VAT registered, every sale requires a tax invoice showing your TRN, VAT amount, and required fields. AED 5,000 fine per non-compliant invoice.
Corporate Tax law requires records to be kept for 7 years after the end of the tax period, and VAT records for at least 5 years. ETaxFlow stores all records in the cloud with automated backups.
Startups expanding beyond the UAE don't need a second accounting system. ETaxFlow is UAE-licensed and sells across the Gulf — select your country at setup and it applies the right VAT rules automatically.
